  DayZ Patch Notes: Telescopic Baton, Stun Baton and Electric Cattle Prod Hit Experimen

[Image: dayz-baton-masthead.jpg]This week sees another interim patch bundled onto Experimental .49,*which introduced Hypothermia and Hyperthermia into DayZ Standalone. Now we’re getting a first-look at the new non-lethal weapons, the Stun Baton*and the Electric Cattle Prod. Both of these weapons require a battery in order to work, and it’s thought that the shock emitted from the weapon will possibly render a player unconscious.*When you hit a player the status message ‘You feel a surge of electricity running through your body’ will appear. It’s unclear how much damage this currently inflicts.
Another new weapon included in this patch was the Telescopic Baton. The baton has two states, extended and un-extended. In it’s extended state the Stun Baton has the same power as a baseball bat, with a little more reach(1.3m to 1.2m). The swing time is exactly the same (.5s). The advantage of the baton of course it it’s size – it’s easily concealable*and could turn out to be a good back-up weapon if you find yourself being taken hostage.
There are some more interesting features of this patch, including:

  • The addition of Balaclava’s
  • Thermometers have been added to check temperature of various items
  • Early work has been implemented for improvised animal traps
Of course, with these new additions comes new bugs. There are reports that zombies are no longer chasing or attacking players. Also status messages seem to be bugged for the moment which is making playing very difficult. These bugs will probably be squished first thing in the morning.

  DayZ Patch Notes: Hypothermia and Hyperthermia Now In Experimental

[Image: 49-update.jpg]This weeks new DayZ Experimental patch 0.49*introduces us to some cool new features, new mechanics, new bug-fixes, tweaks and improvements for DayZ Standalone. This patch is currently a little lacking compared to some of the previous patches, but as usual it will most likely be expanded*over the coming weeks before being pushed to stable. This patch does however introduce us to a completely new and very important new character mechanic,*body temperature. This new feature sits along side our current hunger, thirst and health systems to give us one more semi-realistic character mechanic to keep an eye on.
[h=3]Body Temperature[/h]The new body temperature system is actually pretty simple.*Every clothing item you wear now has a ‘heat value’ and they are all combined to give you your total ‘heat value’ for your character. Smaller, lighter and thinner items have a relatively low ‘heat value’. Larger, thicker and heavier clothing items have a higher ‘heat value’. This total value, combined with the current weather conditions and your altitude will determine if you’re body temperature is decreasing or increasing. You will have to alter your characters clothing in different scenarios to make sure your body temperature is regulated.
It seems like a solid system which players can generally understand fairly well without too much research. It’s basically common sense – and while the values may need a little tweaking to balance things out over the coming weeks, I think this new body temperature system will be a much-welcomed addition to DayZ.

[h=3]Other Stuff[/h]

  • Clothing now has a ‘dry clothes’ option when wet, useful for regulating temperature
  • Zombie nav-mesh updates to improve zombie path-finding
  • Mode names have been changes from ‘normal/hardcore’ to ’1st person/3rd person’
  • New animations and sound effects

[Image: heat-guide.jpg]This week’s experimental patch notes sees the introduction of a new advanced body temperature system in DayZ Standalone – Hypothermia and Hyperthermia. Hypothermia is a condition in which the body’s core temperature drops too low. Hyperthermia is the opposite – it’s when the body’s core temperature raises too high.
Within DayZ Standalone, this new*temperature*system will sit along side the current hunger, thirst and health system. It gives us one more semi-realistic, life-and-death character mechanic to constantly keep an eye on – further increasing the immersion of*DayZ*and the attachments we feel to our characters. This new mechanic is relatively simple, we’ll go over the basics below. These details are subject to change in upcoming patches and this guide will be updated to reflect those changes.
[h=3]Body Temperature[/h]Body Temperature in DayZ is affected by 5 core*game-play elements in DayZ.

  • Clothing – Clothing is the main factor in determining your body temperature in DayZ.*Every clothing item you wear has a ‘heat value’and they are all combined to give you your total ‘heat value’ for your character. Smaller, lighter and thinner items have a relatively low ‘heat value’. Larger, thicker and heavier clothing items have a higher ‘heat value’.
  • Wind – Windy conditions mean lower temperatures.
  • Rain – Rain means*wet clothes, which means lower temperatures.
  • Sun – Clear and Sunny days mean higher temperatures.
  • Altitude – Lower altitudes means lower temperatures.
These*five things combined will determine your characters temperature.*Once the temperature is calculated, your temperature will start to slowly increase or decrease*until it reaches that value. You can tell if your temperature is increasing or decreasing by checking your character status message in the chat-area of the screen. ‘It’s chilly out there’ means your temperature is currently decreasing. ‘I am sweating’ means your current temperature is currently increasing.
[h=3]Hypothermia (too cold)[/h]‘it’s chilly out there’ – means your core temperature is decreasing.
Hypothermia occurs in DayZ when your core body temperature drops below 35 Celsius. There are three stages of Hypothermia, stage 1, stage 2 and stage 3. You will*receive various status messages in-game to alert you to your hypothermic state including: I feel cold, I feel quite cold, I feel seriously cold,*I’m freezing and*I am*lethally*hypothermic.
If you are suffering from Hypothermia you need to*quickly increase your core body temperature. There are various ways you can make sure your body temperature will increase:
  • Wear extra clothing items
  • Make sure your clothing items are dry
  • Expose yourself to sunshine or fire
  • Descend to lower altitudes
Hyperthermia (too hot)
‘I am sweating’ – means your core temperature is increasing.
Hyperthermia occurs in DayZ when your core body temperature raises above 37 Celsius. There are three stages of Hyperthermia, stage 1, stage 2 and stage 3. You will receive various status messages in-game to alert you to your hyperthermic state including: I feel hot, I feel i might pass out from overheating,*The heat is unbearable*and*I am hyperthermic.
If you are suffering from Hyperthermia you need to quickly decrease your core body temperature.*There are various ways you can make sure your body temperature will decrease:
  • Remove clothing items
  • Take a dip in the sea, a lake or a pond. This makes your clothing items ‘wet’
  • Expose yourself to rain
  • Climb to higher altitudes

  MCZ: DayZ In Minecraft

[Image: MCZ-masthead.jpg]MCZ (Minecraft DayZ) is a new Minecraft Mod aimed at recreating the DayZ experience within the Minecraft Universe. It’s creators*have succesfully *replicated many aspects of DayZ including the cities*of *Chernogorsk, Elektrozavodsk and the infamous NWAF. There’s a hunger and thirst system, a ton of DayZ inspired weapons, loot, bleeding and broken bones and of course, there’s zombies (and they don’t glitch through walls..). They’ve done a very good job at emulating the environment – from the weather to the ambient DayZ music it does feel very authentic. Loot is fairly sparse – it took me around 20 minutes before I found my first weapon (a crossbow), and I ran out of ammunition fairly quickly after taking out a bunch of zombies that had taken up residence in the supermarket. Thankfully the melee weapons are also effective and a trusty machete *I found came in very handy.
It’s very easy to try it out – just launch minecraft, choose multiplayer – direct connect, and enter the following:*play.mc-z.us:25701
The game will ask if you wish to download the custom resource pack, choose yes and you’re good to go.

The developers seem*committed to improving MCZ in the future with the addition of*popular DayZ features like vehicles.*I could see this game being a lot of fun with a group of friends trying to hold down one of the major cities and interacting with other players in the area. [Image: mosin-wrap.jpg]Here we go again – the DayZ team have been hard at work on the lastest DayZ Patch which has surprisingly been pushed to the stable branch of DayZ already. As usual the patch notes are jam-packed full of new features for DayZ, aswell as some fixes for some of the broken stuff currently in-game. Things like the ‘Grass-Wrapped’ Mosin, Sawed-Off Mosin and Improvised Arrows for use in the Improvised Shortbow look set to make this patch quite exciting! There are some welcomed fixes also – Helicopter Crash Sites should now be operating correctly and the loot tables have been re-balanced… again.
[h=2]Grass-Wrapped Mosin[/h]The ‘Grass-Wrapped’ Mosin-Nagant has finally been introduced to DayZ. To craft one, you’re going to need a Mosin-Nagant, a Burlap Sack and some grass. Tear the Burlap Sack into a ‘Burlap wrap’, and then with the wrap in your hand crouch near some grass and select ‘fill with grass’. You will now have a ‘Grass Wrap’. This Grass Wrap can then be combined with the Mosin to complete your camouflaged rifle! This is one step closer to full camouflage – with the final step being the infamous ghillie suit. We can only dream that the ghillie is on the way soon and that it will be crafted in a similar fashion.
[h=2]Sawed-Off Mosin[/h]You can now take a hack-saw to your Mosin-Nagant to create a ‘sawed-off’ Mosin. This new Mosin only takes up 4 inventory slots, the same as the sawed-off shotgun, meaning you can hide it in your bag and to the unsuspecting captor – you’ll look unarmed. It could be beneficial for players who already have a regular Mosin with plenty of ammunition to keep a ‘sawed-off’ in their pack for closer-quarters combat. It will certainly be easier to control but the fact that you lose the long-range will put many players of choosing this weapon as primary.
[h=2]Primitive Arrows[/h]Finally, after weeks of the Improvised Bow being under-used due to lack of ammunition – we can now craft our own arrows. All you’ll need is a knife to sharpen a stick *- this gives you a sharpened stick which you will then need to apply some feathers too. Feathers can be obtained from chickens. Hopefully this will help make the bow a bit more useful and we’ll start to see more players using them in early-game.
[h=2]New Towns -*Vavilovo & Sinistok[/h]Two new towns have been added to the North West of the map. You can find them to the NW of the Airfield and from what we’ve seen so far they seem to be fairly large – they will certainly help make the NW of the map a bit more interesting and help keep the flow of players in Chernarus moving in the right direction.   • Player is unable to attack with any weapon in certain circumstances
  • Character is freezed for a few seconds after throwing item in certain angle

  Dean Hall Tells Gamescom – DayZ Coming to PS4

[Image: dayz-ps.jpg]A couple of hours ago – Dean Hall rather expectantly took to the stage at this years Gamescom 2014 – Cologne to announce something that has been hinted at in the past, but not officially confirmed.
DayZ is coming to PS4 in under 3 years.*
3 years may seem like a hell of a long time to some of you, but if you factor in the fact that the game is still in Alpha, and that it probably will be for another year or so, then that leaves between a year and two years for the team to come up with a proper, solid PS Compatible DayZ – a hell of a lot of optimization is needed to get the game there, but it has been done before. Planetside 2, initially a PC game was launched on PS with a mega-optimization patch which boasted FPS increases of upto 30% and it was hugely successful. It worked, and it can work for DayZ too. Dean said at Gamescom ‘We don’t want to just port DayZ, we want to develop the game to each platforms strength.‘.
Dean says that the PS Version won’t hinder, but will actually help the PC version expand. It’s already resulted in the 64-bit servers, and the team are now committed to developing a entirely new cross-platform renderer which will boost DayZ’s graphics both on PC, and PS4.
